edmonton indie bookstore extravaganza

april 26-27, 2025

Tips

  • When planning your trip, don’t forget to stay fed and hydrated! This can be a whole-day odyssey each day, depending on how you’re getting around. Take a water bottle!
  • Introverts, you might need to take down time before and after, because this will definitely drain your social battery.
  • For those who need more space for mobility and/or are immune compromised and are trying to avoid the highest mass of people, Sunday has been a quieter day than Saturday.

FAQ

I see there’s a Lu.ma event page this year. Do I have to register to participate?

No, you don’t need to register for this event. If you register using the event page, you’ll receive reminders, updates and communication from event organizers.

Do I need to make a purchase at each bookstore to receive a stamp?

While it’s not mandatory to make a purchase at each bookstore to get a stamp, we do recommend at least having a browse! Spend time at old favourites and get to know bookstores you haven’t been to before. The whole point of Indie Bookstore Day is to show love and support to independent bookstores, and there are many ways to do so—buy books, buy merch or other items, post something to socials, spread the word!

Will all bookstores be open both days on the weekend?

Yes, this year to minimize confusion we have asked all participating bookstores to be open both Saturday and Sunday. Individual bookstore hours will vary and can be viewed on the Neighbourhood Travel Guide page.

do i have to visit both locations of a bookstore to get a stamp?

No, you only have to visit ONE location of a bookstore (i.e. downtown Wee Book Inn OR Whyte Ave Wee Book Inn) to get a stamp.

Do I have to visit all bookstores to qualify for a prize?

Nope! This year, we will be using a points system with multiple prizes. This is in order to make the prize-winning part of the extravaganza more accessible to more people, and to accommodate a larger amount of participating bookstores.

There will also be a separate prize draw just for those who will be transiting or biking! More info on that coming soon.

we are grateful to be here.

Edmonton is known as amiskwacîwâskihikan in Cree (Beaver Hills House), and is located on Treaty 6 territory, the homeland of the Métis Nation. This is the traditional land and gathering place of many First Nations including the Néhiyaw (Cree), Niitsitapi (Blackfoot), Nakoda (Stoney), Dene, and Anishinaabe (Ojibway/Saulteaux), and home to of one of the largest communities of Inuit south of the 60th parallel.

Indigenous stories matter. We encourage readers to join with us in learning, decolonizing, and truth-telling in the best ways we know how, as we journey the road to reconciliation together.
