Audreys Books is Edmonton’s oldest indie bookstore selling new books, carrying a wide range of fiction, non-fiction, children’s books
and more, as well as gifts and toys. Audreys also hosts authors and other literary events.

AUDREYS IN THEIR OWN WORDS

We’re housed in a beautiful heritage building in the heart of downtown Edmonton, where we’ve shared the joys of reading since 1975. Audreys Books does not have an apostrophe in the name because our store was originally named after two Audreys, whose husbands were the store owners. So it’s plural, not possessive! Edmonton old-timers still remember Audrey Whalen, who worked as a bookseller in the store. In 1985, the store was bought by Sharon and Steve Budnarchuk, who are still the owners. The store is currently managed by their daughter, Kelly Dyer, and three generations of the family have worked here over the years.

The two floors of our bookstore contain new books on a wide range of topics. We have a strong selection of Alberta authors, Indigenous authors, literary fiction, cookbooks and children’s books. Our kid’s section spans most of the lower level and covers all age ranges from teeny newborns to young adults.

The lower level is also where we host book launches and other bookish events. We host around 70 events every year, both in and outside of the store. We are founder members of the Edmonton Indie Bookstore Extravaganza, which coincides with Canadian Independent Bookstore Day in April of each year. During the school year, we facilitate school book fairs and are a fixture at local teachers’ conferences. 

Our team of friendly, knowledgeable and exceedingly bookish floor staff and managers are happy to help you find the perfect read. If you prefer just to gently browse, you are always welcome to wander among the vintage wooden shelves in our cosy brick-walled store. 

If downtown is not your jam – or too much of a traffic jam – you’ll find plenty to browse on our website, and we deliver or mail out all over Canada.
