PAPER BIRCH BOOKS IN THEIR OWN WORDS
Paper Birch Books is a little local independent used and new bookstore in Little Italy, Boyle McCauley, Edmonton, which opened in December 2022. We specialize in quality rad, rare, and spectacular books: titles timely and timeless, contemporary and historical; tomes that inspire tactile and visual delight; visionary and daring voices; intriguing and zany ephemera.
A love letter to print culture, the bookshop curation leans towards the literary, lefty, intellectual, eclectic, diverse, and curious. We have nonfiction and fiction, poetry, art and cookbooks, children’s books, graphic novels, and more, at a variety of price points, editions, and conditions (from buttery soft vintage paperbacks to crisp hardcovers!). Plus, a licensed in-house coffee bar serving up delicious beverages and handpicked bottles & cans.
Paper Birch Books is co-owned by life and business partners Benjamin Hertwig and Céline Chuang. Our bookstore is inspired by the comforting clutter of those we grew up frequenting, as well as countercultural bookstore traditions like the Black, anarchist, and feminist bookstore movements. We love our feisty little inner city neighbourhood and are honoured to be a fixture of many folks lives, and we’re proud of our dreamy team of friendly, welcoming, queer majority booksellers. We always have banter and a hot book take ready!
